Getting Your Message Across

Four Parts to a Whole … don’t fall in a communication's hole!

There are four very important aspects to consider when getting an effective message across.

Always start with the two questions or WHO am I addressing and WHAT ACTION do I want them to take as a result of hearing what I have to say ... whether written, visual, verbal or however I choose to communicate.

Give them a message

What are you telling them? Is it clear and understandable to them… are you using words and phrases that they could only understand if they were part of your inner circle? Are you loading them down with too much detail?

Give them a reason to care

What are you saying to them that would make them care about what you do … why should they care about anything that you say to them?

Give them a way to remember you

Tell them a story or give them an example … show them the ‘so what’ … leave them with some questions.

Give them something to do?

What action would you like them to take? What can you do to assist that process in the time that you have?
